🎓 I received my Ph.D. from North Carolina State University, and my Bachelor’s degree from Central South University in China. The majority of my postdoctoral training was at Virginia Tech. More about me
🔬 My personal research interests include energy science, crystallography, microscopy, electrochemistry, manufacturing, and data science.

 Research Lab

At DHLab, our research aims to understand and control material properties for electrochemical energy applications, while advancing the fundamental knowledge of materials electrochemistry and solid-state physics. Our projects span the design, synthesis, processing, characterization, and application of cutting-edge energy materials, including those used in batteries, catalysis, ferroelectrics, and capacitors.

2026.04Tariq and Nishanth won the first and second prize respectively in one session at 19th Annual MRS/Optica Poster Competition.
2026.04Bryson has been selected for the graduate travel support to attend the first-ever ACerS Spring Meeting in Bellevue, WA.
2026.04Our collaborative proposal was selected for funding by the CU-SRNL GSS Initiative. We will work with Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) on energy security.

2025.09After national competition, Dr. Hou received the NSF EPSCoR Research Fellowship! Check the press release. This very competitive fellowship supports us to visit Brookhaven National Laboratory in the next two years to solve important scientific questions in solid-state battery design. 2025.06With partnership, Dr. Hou got the chance to attend IEEE INFOCOM in London, UK and IPDPS 2025 in Milan, Italy. Shared ideas with experts in parallel computation for better materials science. It was a memorable experience in Europe.
